HISTORY:

PORTRET-GerbrandDr Gerbrand Haasbroek started the Dr Haasbroek practice at 7 Cynaroides Street Somerset West in June 1995. It expanded to a busy four-man practice named Dr Haasboek & Partners. Dr Haasbroek's first Clinical Trial was in 2000. By 2010 more than ten Clinical Trials were done under the auspices of Dr Haasbroek & Partners with Dr Haasbroek acting as the Principal Investigator. In August 2010 the Somerset West Clinical Trial Unit was registered under which auspices all future Clincal Trials will be done.

Somerset West Clinical Trial Unit is an independent unit functioning from the premises of Dr Haasbroek & Partners. The practice is operating as a private practice with four partners, serving a local community of about 500 000 people. 

The practice has up to date successfully completed numerous Clinical Trials. All partners are keen to combine private practice work with Clinical Trial Research as a special interest.

Somerset West Clinical Trial Unit operates parallel with the Practice of Dr Haasbroek & Partners and share all infrastructure: E.g. own pharmacy; secure drug storage; work area for CRA; conference room for meetings; local laboratory nearby; secure record storage on site; radiology services with immediate reporting; centrifuge; clinical lab; phlebotomy; dedicated fridge and a minus 20 degree refrigerator-freezer for trial supplies.

Existing Clinical Trial experience includes drugs used in the following conditions: Gout, asthma, allergic rhinitis, osteo-arthritis, flu, depression and general anxiety disorder. We are also keen to do Clinical Trials in the fields of hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia,
diabetes, gout, allergies, various infections, flu, depression, GAD and Alzheimer’s Disease as well as any other condition that fits into the field of general practice.

The patient database of our practice consists of more than 10,000 files with an average of 2,5 patients per file. This equals a database of 25,000 patients including names, diseases, treatments etc.
